Nscale's public offering will once again gauge Wall Street's willingness to embrace high-concentration AI wagers

Nscale, a British AI cloud provider, is heading to a NYSE listing with a $35 billion valuation and $3 billion raise target. Its $103 billion contract backlog relies heavily on two deals with Microsoft and Anthropic, highlighting extreme customer concentration in AI infrastructure. The IPO will reveal how much concentration risk public investors will tolerate.

British AI cloud provider Nscale is heading toward a public listing, and its filing documents reveal a business built almost entirely on two giant contracts. The offering will show whether public market investors are comfortable buying into an AI infrastructure company whose fortunes rest so heavily on Microsoft and Anthropic.

Billions in Contracts, Two Signatures

Nscale emerged two years ago from Arkon Energy, an Australian cryptocurrency mining firm, and has since accumulated contracts valued at more than $103 billion, according to its IPO filing. The vast majority of that figure, roughly 85%, comes from just two deals: a $43.8 billion commitment to supply Microsoft with compute capacity through 2033, and a separate $44.6 billion supply agreement with Anthropic.

The Anthropic arrangement comes with conditions. It depends on Nscale securing financing, and the AI lab can exit or cancel the contract if the company misses milestones that the filing itself describes as "stringent."

An Interconnected Industry Under the Microscope

Nscale's customer concentration illustrates how tightly linked the AI infrastructure sector has become. A paper from credit hedge fund Sona Asset Management, highlighted in the Financial Times, found that many providers in this space rely on a small pool of buyers. Rival CoreWeave draws 67% of its revenue from Microsoft alone, while data center builder Applied Digital counts on Oracle for 67% of its revenue and CoreWeave for another 30%.

Sona's analysis did not frame this interdependence as inherently harmful, but it cautioned that a single stumble or change in strategy by one major participant can ripple across the whole industry.

The Numbers Behind the Listing

Nscale intends to list on the NYSE with an expected valuation of $35 billion, per the Financial Times, and is targeting a $3 billion raise, according to Bloomberg. For the six months ended June 30, the company reported revenue of $140.6 million, a sharp increase from $10.4 million in the year-ago period. Net losses, however, climbed to $1.02 billion from $369 million.

Backing from Nvidia has continued: earlier this month the chipmaker agreed to supply $1 billion in convertible debt as part of a broader $3.1 billion financing package. Nscale was previously valued at $14.6 billion in a $2 billion Series C round led by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries. Beyond CoreWeave, competitors include Nebius, Lambda, and Crusoe, which announced last week that it raised $3.9 billion at a $30.9 billion valuation.

Nscale runs data centers in Norway, Portugal, Texas, and West Virginia. Its board features former Meta executives Sheryl Sandberg and Nick Clegg, along with ex-OpenAI executive Fidji Simo.

What happens when the stock begins trading will offer a clear read on how much risk public investors are willing to absorb in a sector where a handful of customers underwrite most of the revenue.
