Background: From rumor to touchscreen speaker
Apple's HomeView was long-rumored as a smart display. It now appears as a smart speaker with a touchscreen display. The available colors are silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray.
Development: First look in New York City
The device was seen in New York City this week. It puts a small, vibrant screen atop a speaker base. Its functions include taking video calls, displaying photos, and providing information at a glance with Apple's Siri AI voice assistant.
Latest positioning: Smaller footprint than larger displays
The HomeView's square shape makes it feel less imposing than larger smart displays such as Google's Nest Hub Max or Amazon's Echo 11. The first-look description places it well on a kitchen counter, while suggesting it may be a little too large for a bedside table.
Current stage
The HomeView is now a physically revealed product, not only a rumor. The next step is more product detail beyond the first-look description.
