All the new features arriving with Meta's Muse AI agent

At its Connect conference, Meta announced a sweeping expansion of its Muse AI agent, including Muse Realtime Avatar for face-to-face video chats, integration with Meta smart glasses, and agentic control on Mac desktops. Muse will gain its own email address, shop across Shopify, Stripe, PayPal, Walmart, Sephora and other partners, and support over 1,500 developer-built connectors. The agent remains free with a generous token allowance, with Meta planning to earn small transaction fees over time.

Meta used its annual Connect conference in Menlo Park on Wednesday to lay out an ambitious expansion of Muse, the personal AI agent it launched in early September. CEO Mark Zuckerberg's keynote signaled that the company sees Muse as its biggest consumer AI play yet — a hands-free digital helper meant to manage everyday tasks across users' apps, devices, and now even their eyewear.

The agent runs on Muse Spark, Meta's multimodal AI model designed for agentic work, and is pitched as a more approachable alternative to rivals from OpenAI and Anthropic. Zuckerberg, wearing a black T-shirt reading "Building is My love Language," left no doubt about his ambitions. "The centerpiece of our vision for what we're building is Muse," he said, predicting it will become "the personal superintelligence that billions of people around the world are going to use to accomplish their goals and improve their lives."

A Face for Your AI

Perhaps the most eye-catching announcement was Muse Realtime Avatar, a new AI model that gives each user's agent its own digital appearance and voice. Instead of a faceless chatbot, users will soon be able to video chat with a distinct avatar — referred to by Zuckerberg as "Jolly" — in real time, assigning it tasks and asking questions during live conversations.

The feature carries obvious echoes of Meta's metaverse era, but the company's framing is practical: giving the software a personality makes it feel more like a companion than a tool.

Muse on Your Glasses and Your Desktop

Muse is also headed to Meta's smart glasses. Once integrated, users will be able to summon the agent with a wake word and simply speak to it, asking it to guide a personalized workout, log meals, book appointments, or purchase items they spot in the real world. Meta says the agent will run quietly in the background and report back once a task is finished. No exact launch date was given, only that it should arrive "in the coming months."

On desktop, Meta confirmed that Muse will bring agentic computer control to the Mac, letting users delegate work while the agent operates apps across the machine. "You can have it help you run your small business, or just get work done for you," said chief AI officer Alexandr Wang. "You can walk away from your computer and it keeps working for you on all the jobs you lined up."

Because the agent will constantly be working behind the scenes, Wang also revealed it will soon get its own email address, allowing users to loop Muse into email threads or forward messages for it to handle.

Shopping, Payments and a Developer Rush

Commerce emerged as a major theme. Meta has struck partnerships with Stripe and Shopify so Muse can browse Shopify's entire catalog and buy products using Lync and Shop Pay, with added PayPal support as well. New retail connections include Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair, plus Expedia and, soon, Instacart. GitHub, Granola, and Notion round out the connector list.

Meta has also opened the platform so developers can build their own connectors — and interest has been swift. Wang said the company received more than 1,500 applications in under a week. "I think this could be a generational opportunity to start building for a new platform as it takes off," he said.

For now, the monetization plan is simple: Muse stays free for a large token allowance, with Meta eventually skimming a small cut of transactions. "We're standing behind this by making Muse free for a huge number of tokens, with the expectation that over time we will profit by taking a small fee from transactions," Zuckerberg said.

Whether consumers will hand an AI agent control of their inboxes, desktops, and wallets remains the open question — and how quickly these features ship in "the coming months" will show whether Muse can move from keynote demo to daily habit.
